On August 21, 2010 DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. issued a recall of its ASR XL Acetabular Hip Replacement System. Problems have been identified which have lead to the need to replace the DePuy artificial hip. The problems have included instability, deterioration, infections, fractures, dislocation, sensitivity to the metal, loosening of parts, pain and metal particles coming from the ASR XL Acetabular Hip Replacement System causing severe damage.
DuPuy Orthopaedics, Inc. is a Johnson & Johnson Company. The recall includes the ASR XL Acetabular Hip Replacement System that first became available in July 2003.
