CINCINNATI FIRESTONE TIRE INJURY LAWYERS

Firestone has recalled millions of defective tires since the 1970s. Problems continued in 1996 and 2000 when Ford Explorers showed an abnormal number of tire failures and subsequent rollover accidents. If you or someone you know has suffered personal injury or wrongful death due to a Firestone tire failure, contact a defective product attorney at O’Connor Acciani & Levy, LLC immediately. 513-241-7111.

Firestone 500 radial tires have long been plagued with defects that cause the tire tread to separate and fail. When Firestone developed the 500 steel-belted radial in the early 1970s, inherent problems caused the company to recall seven million tires by 1978. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigated and discovered Firestone research claiming the failures were due to weak bonding cement which allowed water to rust the steel reinforcements in the radials. Firestone publicly blamed the problems on under-inflation and poor maintenance by the consumer.

NHTSA Administrator Joan Claybrook stated before the Transportation Subcommittee, United States Senate Committee on Appropriations on September 6, 2000, that, "there was a documented cover-up by Ford and Firestone of the 500 defect."

"Emerging Information shows that both Ford and Firestone had early knowledge of tread separation in Firestone Tires fitted to Ford Explorer vehicles but at no point informed the NHTSA of their findings", said Executive Director for the Centre for Auto Safety, Clarence Ditlow.

Currently, close to 200 lawsuits and 3500 complaints are pending against Firestone and Ford Motor Company for victims of injury and wrongful death due to tire failures. Reports of nearly 150 deaths and over 500 injuries are associated with the above claims. Ford blames the tragedies on Firestone’s defective tires, but Firestone cites several other vehicles using the same tires that don’t share Ford’s opinion or experience with tire failures.
