Middletown Motorcycle Accident Likely Alcohol Related

Police arriving on the scene of a motorcycle accident found 33-year-old Michael Smith 130 feet from his bike near the intersection of N. Breiel Blvd. and Riverview Ave. early Friday morning, September 6. Smith was traveling southbound on Briele Blvd. when he hit a utility pole and was immediately flung from the motorcycle. Witnesses reported an enormous blaze and called police, who suspect that alcohol was a major contributing factor in the accident. A witness reported seeing Smith at a Merle Haggard concert Thursday night before he left on his motorcycle. Smith was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol-related motorcycle accidents can be deadly for the rider and those they share the road with. Ohio law requires novice riders and those under the age of 18 to wear helmets while operating or riding a motorcycle. Smith was transported to Miami Valley Hospital and suffered severe head injury because of the crash.
