Rear-End Collision Claims Life Of Eastern Kentucky University Student

Four students were injured and one was killed following a rear-end collision on Kentucky's Eastern Bypass Tuesday morning. The driver of the vehicle, an eighteen-year-old Eastern Kentucky University student, was pronounced dead at the scene after his car slammed into the back of a cement truck that was stopped at a red light. The impact of the collision caused the car to slide underneath the cement truck and pin several passengers inside. Four of the passengers, who were also students at Eastern Kentucky University, sustained multiple injuries; however, none of their injuries were considered life-threatening. One student was treated at a nearby hospital in Richmond, while the other three students were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington. Shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, local police received a call regarding a car that had rear-ended a ready-mix cement truck. The truck was traveling east on the bypass when it stopped for a red light at the Lancaster Avenue intersection. The car driven by the college student rear-ended the truck, possibly because early morning sunlight had blinded the student and made it difficult for him to see the stopped truck. However, an investigation into the exact cause of the collision is still ongoing, as factors that contribute to these types of car accidents can vary according to the circumstances. Its important to note that rear-end collisions are the most common type of car accident. Additionally, if one of the vehicles involved in a rear-end collision is significantly larger than the other, as was the case in this accident, serious injury or death is likely to occur. To help lessen the possibility of being involved in a fatal rear-end car accident, maintain awareness of your surroundings and at all times while driving. Never take your eyes off the road, and always keep a safe distance between your car and other vehicles. Behaving responsibly behind the wheel and obeying all Ohio and Kentucky road rules can help keep you alive and accident-free. However, its impossible to completely eliminate all threats of a rear-end collision.
