SB I-71 Crash Near Brent Spruce Injures Father, Son

A car crash that left a local father and son injured, is now under police investigation. Authorities say the incident happened on I-71 just before the Brent Spence Bridge in the southbound lanes. Police say it appears a semi-truck crashed into their vehicle when the father was trying to change a flat-tire. While the extent of injuries remain unknown, we know both father and son were taken to local hospitals. Police say it remains unclear if their car was in the highway or on the side of the road at the time of the collision. The incident, which occurred around 10:45 a.m., remains under investigation.

Staying Safe While Changing Tire On Busy Highway

Changing a tire on the side of any road or highway can be extremely dangerous.
  • First things first, if you notice you have a flat tire slow down and keep a firm grip on the steering wheel.
  • Do not slam on brakes. This can cause you to lose control of your car.
  • NEVER stop in traffic, this puts you at risk for a rear-end car accident or side collision.
  • Don't stand behind or next to your car. This is critical to your safety.
Stay in your car and wait for help to arrive, especially if you are on a busy highway and there's no safe and secure place to walk.
