Toyota Recalls 690,000 Pick-Up Trucks

Toyota Motor Co. has announced that they are recalling 690,000 pickup trucks because the rear leaf spring could break, puncture the gas tank and cause a fire. According to Toyota, the leaf springs could fracture due to stress and corrosion. If the springs move out of position, they could come into contact with surrounding components. Toyota says they are not aware of any fires, crashes or injuries caused by the problem. The current recall affects 2005-11 models. All affected owners will be notified when they can take their vehicles into the dealer for repairs. Complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration include drivers who saw that the lead springs had completely broken off and slid out of place. This is not the first time Toyota has been in the news for a recall and it definitely will not be the last. The company could be subject to an investigation after some Toyota Corolla owners complained of unintended low-speed surging, a problem that is very similar to the company's unintended acceleration issue back in 2009. Toyota intends to comply with any inquiry; as many as 1.7 million Toyota recalls could be subject to this investigation. Have you or someone you love been injured due to a defective vehicle?
