John Walton is a personal injury attorney at O’Connor, Acciani & Levy who represents people injured in car accidents, dog attacks, and unsafe-property incidents throughout Ohio and Kentucky. Based in the firm’s Cincinnati office, he handles injury claims on both sides of the Ohio-Kentucky state line.
John brings a background in law enforcement, insurance defense, and plaintiff-side personal injury law to his work with injured clients. Before becoming an attorney, he spent about a decade in law enforcement, gaining firsthand experience with investigations and the evidence used to evaluate incidents and determine what happened.
John later spent roughly four and a half years defending insurance companies and their insureds against personal injury claims. That work gave him direct insight into how insurers investigate claims, assess liability and damages, and approach settlement negotiations and litigation.
John now uses that experience to represent injured people. His background allows him to evaluate a personal injury claim from multiple perspectives, from the initial investigation and insurance review through settlement negotiations and, when necessary, litigation.
Background and Experience

John began his legal career at Rolfes Henry Co., L.P.A., where he spent about three years as a law clerk while attending law school.
After earning his law degree, he remained with the firm for roughly three and a half years as an attorney handling insurance defense matters. He continued his insurance defense work at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith for approximately ten months.
After a brief period handling estate planning matters at Leonard Law P.S.C., John moved to Gregory S. Young Co., L.P.A., where he spent about four years representing plaintiffs in personal injury cases before joining O’Connor, Acciani & Levy.
How His Prior Experience Shapes His Practice
His years on the defense side continue to influence how he handles those cases today. Because John has represented insurers and their insureds, he understands how defense lawyers may evaluate liability, damages, and coverage and where they are likely to challenge a claim. He uses that perspective to identify potential weaknesses and address them as he builds the case.
John’s approach is also informed by the decade he spent in law enforcement before law school. That experience gave him a foundation for investigating claims, reading police reports, questioning witnesses, and evaluating the physical facts surrounding an accident.
Practice Areas
John represents clients in several types of personal injury claims, including:
- Auto accident claims involving passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and motorcycles
- Dog bite and animal attack claims
- Premises liability claims involving slip and falls, trip and falls, and other injuries caused by unsafe property conditions
His practice includes cases arising in both Ohio and Kentucky.

How John Approaches a Case

John brings a direct and practical approach to his work with clients. He explains his assessment of a case, what may affect its value, what it will take to pursue the claim, and what risks may arise along the way. Rather than setting unrealistic expectations, he focuses on giving clients a clear understanding of where their case stands.
That same approach carries into his dealings with opposing counsel and insurance carriers. John remains professional and prepared while advocating firmly for his client’s position. He also prepares each case with the possibility of trial in mind, allowing settlement negotiations to proceed from a record that has already been carefully developed.
Outside the office, John is a husband and father. When he is not working, he enjoys reading, going to the gym, and playing golf.
